The SS17 runway show in New York kicked off with t-shirts printed with political statements in Stephen Sprouse inspired graffiti. R13 sent out models in heavy black eye make-up, dog collar chokers, skinny black ties and chain belts for a hard-as-nails riot grrrl look.
Anti-fashion meets goth in the SS17 collection with destroyed grunge sweaters, distressed denim jeans with raw hems and oversize shredded denim jackets. Oversize t-shirt dresses, plaid mini-kilts teamed with blazers that recall a Japanese anime schoolgirl look and jackets detailed with sports stripes; all take their cues from urban street-style.
The trend for rock band t-shirts continues with R13 referencing some of the designer’s favorites including original goth-rockers Bauhaus, Joy Division and Sonic Youth.
The color palette is a distinctly monochrome black and white.
R13, a contemporary women jeans label founded in 2009 in New York. For many years the designer of this mysterious and intriguing brand decided to remain anonymous, but in 2016, Chris Leba stepped on the runway of his show, finally claiming the honours and accolades that have been attributed to the brand by worldwide media. Ripped t-shirts, deconstructed jeans and floral dresses essentially make up the vision of Leba, inspired by punk and grunge; his collections are cool, aggressive and energetic... Having left Ralph Lauren to pursue his own path, Chris Leba continues to stun the world with his creations.
