The core aesthetic of the label plays with the tension between masculine strength and feminine sensuality which has translated to date into lace bodycon dresses. Architecture is a key influence on Simkhai’s work and the inspiration for the SS17 collection are the bizarre Watts Towers in Los Angeles. These wire mesh sculptural structures embedded with porcelain, tile and glass find their way into Simkhai’s latest collection through bold decorative embroidery.
With his latest collection, Simkhai is also starting to experiment with movement by playing with more fluid silhouettes. His evening gowns are a stand-out with sexy slip dresses combining romantic ruffles and plunging v-necklines. Cut-outs and sheer crochet dresses also feature in SS17; the color palette is a combination of ivory and blue hues.
The designer is finding a niche balancing sexy with sophistication, expect to see more of his designs on the red-carpet.
